On Thursday, January 7, 2010, 1st Assistant Chief Jack Wankel of the Middletown Township Fire Department was laid to rest with full honors. Memorial and funeral services were attended by more than 200 members of the Middletown Fire and Police Department in full dress uniform. Also in attendance were official representatives from surrounding municipalities and dozens of close friends. As the procession passed under crossed ladders at Community Fire Company, a ‘final call’ was sounded throughout the department to honor his passing. Chief Wankel was a dedicated firefighter and community supporter. His passing was a tragic event for the department. Chief Wankel’s standards, family values, experience and spirit will all be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him. |
