The Captain is the highest ranking officer in the Fire Company. He is responsible for implementing
the Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines. In addition the Captain must ensure his Fire
Company is prepared to respond to emergencies. He must outfit his Firefighters with gear and
equipment and approves all firematic purchasing. During a response he is the Officer in Charge of
the first due piece of apparatus. On the fire ground the Captain reports to the Chief.

The Lieutenants are the second highest ranking Officers in the Company. The Lieutenants are
responsible for the day to day operations of the Fire Company. They are responsible for Training,
recommending firematic purchases and deal directly with the Firefighters. During a response they
are the Officer in Charge of the second due piece of apparatus. On the fire ground they report
directly to the Captain.


The Chief Engineer is the Executive Apparatus Custodian of the Fire Company. He is the highest
ranking Chauffeur in the Company. He is responsible for training new Chauffeurs and ensuring the
Company apparatus are prepared for service. During a response the Chief Engineer is the
Chauffeur of the first due piece of apparatus. On the fire ground the Chief Engineer reports to the
Lieutenant.
The Assistant Engineers are the Apparatus Custodians of the Fire Company. They are responsible
for maintaining the Company apparatus. They perform weekly and monthly inspections on the
apparatus and maintain all of the tools and equipment. During a response they are the Chauffeurs
of the second due piece of apparatus. On the fire ground they report directly to the Chief Engineer.
